After the control asking bid, all non
1-step game bids are sign-off, Further relays (never 3NT) initiate Dwnial
Cues.
In Denial Cues, Responder cycles
through his suits, fragments and shortages as follows:
1. |
1st-step denies a control in the longest suit; 2nd-step denies a
control in the next longest (if there is one), etc. Equal length
suits are resolved by suit-order. |
2. |
Next step denies
a control in the longest fragment; the step after that denies a
control in the 2nd-longest fragment and so on. Equal length
fragments are resolved by residue-order. |
3. |
A step skipped
shows a control in the indicated suit. |
4. |
The above
procedure is reversed for singleton; ie stop with a control and skip
without one. Void suits are ignored. |
5. |
Suits in which
controls have been denied, drop out of the cycle. Suits in which a
control has been shown, remain so that a second control may be
shown/denied on the next cycle. |
6. |
A slight
adjustment is made to Denial Cues if Responder has zoomed. A Denial
Cue (denying A or K) does not drop the indicated suit out of the
cycle. In the 2nd-cycle, denial cues refer to the Q of that suit.
Also, 1st=skip shows A or K, while a 2nd-skip shows 2 of A,K and Q. |
7. |
Responder
continues to give Denial Cues until Relayer sign-off with any
non-step bid, or sign-off with a 1-step bid when Responder has shown
all his Controls, or bids 6NT or higher. |
