Interference over 1

When the opponents overcall our 1-Opening with 1...1 we continue to relay with 9+ HCPs. With less than 9 HCPs we Pass with 0-4 and Double with 5-8 (range adjusted for suit quality, vulnerability, 3rd-seat 1 etc).

Double is T/O with Lebensohl responses.
Suit is natural (good 5+) and F1

2NT is natural and GF; LTS applies
Cue is GF 2-suiter
3-level Bids basically as above except all GF

Rule: Opener's 1 bid in competition is always a strong relay. For example:

  • After 1-(P)-1-(X) : 1 = strong relay.

  • After 1-(X)-1-(P) : 1 = strong relay.

  • After 1-(X)-P-(1) : 1 = strong relay.

  • After 1-(P)-1-(1) : X = strong relay.

Rule: After a positive response (9+ HCPs) to 1 a GF is established. Thus if the opponents break the relay:

  • Pass: Equivalent to a take-out double

  • Double: For penalties

  • Other: Natural and forcing
