Handling enemy intervention over 2:

(1) When the enemy doubles

  • Pass is to play if opener has .

  • Redouble commands that partner bid 2, enabling responder to place the contract.

  • 2 is "pass or correct".

  • 2NT asks opener's minor, or it is a conventional game force. Responder clarifies with his next bid.

  • 3 is "pass or correct"

  • 3NT is to play

(2) When the opponents make a simple overcall

  • Double is negative through 4. Opener will convert this for penalties with an appropriate holding in the enemy suit.

  • A Cue bid asks for a minor if a major has been bid; it asks for a major if a minor has been bid.

  • 2NT asks for opener's minor or it is a conventional game force. Responder clarifies with his next bid.

  • 3 is "pass or correct"

  • Other suit bids are natural, non-forcing and show a decent hand.
