  • 1st-relay asks for shortage. The 1st-step response deny the shortage; other steps show ascending shortage.

  • 2nd-relay asks suit quality. Step responses successively show 5 to 8 HCP’s in the long suit.

  • 3-Puppet over 2NT: 3/3/3/3NT=/// (transfer) after opener accepts the transfer, responder shows his shortage by ascending steps.

Note: If the opponents overcall the 1-Opening with 1 or 1 we do not move these responses up a step or two, but leave the structure in tact. Thus after a 1-overcall, we simply lose the 2 response. We then bid 3 instead showing a 6- or 7-card Club suit. Similarly, after a 1-overcall, we lose the 2 and 2 responses, which are replaced by 3 and 3 to show a 6- or 7-card Club or Diamond suit.
